This is a 2-part area. One part about my education and work towards my Literature Degree. The other part is about books and reading in general.
Yes, I am an English Literature Major with a minor in History (focusing a bit on old England). Currently, I am a student at Metropolitan State University of Denver and I love it there! It is a smaller school but it has a wonderfully flexible schedule and I have been lucky with my professors so far.
Why Literature? I get this quite often because people can not imagine what I could ever do with a Literature degree outside of teaching. While teaching would be fun, and I have been told I have a knack for it, I am not really sure what I will do with my degree. At the moment, I am attempting to write and finish my first novel. I also have an interest in possibly working in publishing or possibly an agent. Of course, my dream job would be to get paid to read books for a living. But in the end, when it came down to finally deciding on a degree I went with what I couldn’t live without. I could have worked towards a degree in almost any field but I love books with an intense passion and have since I first started reading. I also love passing it on to the people in my life.
Favorite type of books? I will and have read books from pretty much every genre out there. Some, I may not have finished, but I do not like to limit myself to only one type of books.
Favorite Book? Pride & Prejudice is probably my hands down fav. While I do have friends that think that Jane Austen is irrelevant to modern life, I disagree. Maybe I will put this out there one day on why I don’t believe it is. I have a firm belief that a good story never becomes irrelevant to a reader. Next to that it is probably Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel… it is a beautiful story until you get to the 5th book. I wouldn’t read past book 4.
More later… I will be updating from time to time and adding some child pages with recommendations, book release information as well as possibly information on my own work.
